Analysis of a Scramjet Intake
Location
Dallas, Texas
Date
2024
Role
CFD & Propulsion Analyst
Project type
Hypersonic Propulsion Simulation
Tools
ANSYS Fluent, MATLAB
Techniques
Shock-expansion theory, CFD meshing, hypersonic flow modeling
Mach Regime
Mach 5+
This project involved aerodynamic analysis of a scramjet (Supersonic Combustion Ramjet) inlet to evaluate its performance at hypersonic speeds. The analysis was conducted using a combination of shock-expansion theory and numerical simulations in ANSYS Fluent.
Shock waves and expansion fans generated at the inlet were predicted analytically, and these theoretical results were validated with CFD. The study ensured efficient airflow compression and deceleration before combustion, which is critical for scramjet performance at Mach 5+.
