FSI and CFD of a Projectile

Location

Dallas, Texas

Date

2024

Role

Simulation Engineer

Project type

CFD & FEA Simulation Project

Tools

ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS Mechanical

Focus Area

Aeroelasticity, FSI coupling, high-speed projectile behavior

Analysis Type

One-way FSI (CFD → FEA)

This project involved a coupled Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) analysis of a projectile body to study the structural response under aerodynamic loading. CFD simulations were first carried out in ANSYS Fluent to calculate pressure distributions over the projectile’s surface. These pressure forces were then mapped and imported into ANSYS Mechanical to analyze structural deformation and stress behavior during high-speed flight.

This two-way approach provided deeper insight into the aeroelastic characteristics of the projectile and ensured reliable structural performance under dynamic flow conditions.
