Control and Stability Analysis of an Aircraft
Location
Dallas, Texas
Date
2025
Role
Flight Dynamics Analyst
Project type
Aircraft Stability Assessment
Tools
DATCOM+, MATLAB
Focus Area
Stability Derivatives, CG Range, Trim Analysis
Methods
Flight Mode Estimation, Static Margin Validation
This project involved a comprehensive analysis of the control and stability characteristics of a twin-propeller aircraft. Center of gravity (CG) positions were determined under multiple loading scenarios, followed by the calculation of aerodynamic stability and control derivatives using DATCOM+.
A state-space model was then developed to estimate flight modes and ensure acceptable dynamic response and handling qualities. The analysis also included trim calculations with and without flaps, ensuring the aircraft could be trimmed in all flight conditions. Neutral point and static margin were evaluated to validate stability margins.
