FEA Analysis of an Adhesively Bonded Lap Joint
Location
Dallas, Texas
Date
2025
Role
Lead Analyst & Modeler
Project type
Structural Simulation
Tools
ANSYS Structural
Scope
FEA of bonded lap joint
Focus Area
Stress & Deformation Validation
This project involved performing a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on an adhesively bonded lap joint using ANSYS Structural. The objective was to validate stress and deformation results from a published research study. The joint consisted of AA2024-T3 aluminum plates bonded with SBT 9244 adhesive. Mesh refinement, material properties, and boundary conditions were carefully set up to accurately capture joint behavior under loading. Results were analyzed to assess stress concentrations and potential failure modes in the adhesive layer.
